Review

The Medify Air brand is easily one of the most successful startup manufacturers of air purifiers, and it doesn’t take long to understand why. It produces high-quality air devices that are also affordable, and the Medify MA-112 is one of them. This device has 4 fan speeds, an ozone-free optional ionizer, and a child lock feature. It also has touch controls, sleep mode, air quality indicator, and a 0-8hrs timer. We recently reviewed this air purifier, and here’s what we thought about it.

Overall performance

Medify MA-112 Review: How Good Is This Air Purifier?
Medify MA-112 features a simple design that fits most houses and apartments

We were generally pleased with the effectiveness of the MA-112 air filter. It’s been designed to clean air in large rooms, which makes it perfect for office buildings and large loft apartments. We, however, realized that even though the manufacturer states that it has a cleaning area of 5,000 sq ft/hr, it doesn’t quite meet this coverage. It can, however, clean up to 3700 square feet, which is still impressive.

The Ma-112 model comes with a pre-filter and a True HEPA filter that can capture most types of allergen, pollen, dust mites, pet dander, VOCs, and bacteria. This makes it suitable for people that suffer from severe allergies and asthma. Its H13 filter captures some of the most dangerous allergens, such as cigarette smoke and asbestos. This air purifier also comes with a carbon filter that’s great at absorbing bad odor.

Overall, the features of the Medify MA-112 air purifier are worth every penny you spend on the device.

Designs

While you should mostly consider the functionality of an air purifier as you make a purchase, you should never have to compromise on aesthetics. Keep in mind that the device will likely be kept in the living area and in plain view. Do you really want to have an eyesore in your home? The good news is that the Medify MA-112 has a neutral design that will fit in with your interior home decor.

It comes in a beautiful rectangular design with rounded edges and is available in 2 color variants, black and white.

Construction

The Medify MA-112 air purifier has 2 air inlets on the sides, both of which have individual filters, while the air outlet is at the top. This was a great design decision because the large size makes it difficult to place in the middle of the room.

This air purifier has an easy-to-use control panel at the top edge and also comes with a child lock feature that prevents your children from interfering with its settings.

Filters

Medify MA-112 Review: How Good Is This Air Purifier?
Medify MA-112 has three filtration stages and easily changed system

The Medify MA-112 model comes with a 4 stage filtration system, 3 filters, and an optional ionizer. The filtration technology includes;

Pre-filter: this is like a physical mesh and is usually the first layer of protection. The pre-filter has 2 main purposes; to trap large air pollutants such as fur, dust particles, hair, etc., and to prevent them from making their way into the HEPA filter where they might cause clogging. This then enhances the durability of your filters, ensuring that you don’t have to replace them frequently.

True H13 HEPA Filter: According to CNN Trusted Source Can the AC filter in your home, office or local mall protect you from Covid-19? - CNN (CNN)When New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced last week that malls in New York could not reopen until they installed high-efficiency particulate air filters capable of trapping the virus that causes Covid-19, Harvard environmental health researcher Joseph Gardner Allen was thrilled. edition.cnn.com , HEPA filters are the best, which is why you should go for air purifiers that have them. The Medify MA-112 air purifier has an H13 HEPA filter which is even more effective. While regular HEPA filters can capture up to 99.7% of air particles of up to 0.3 microns, the H13 ones can capture ultrafine particles of up to 0.1 microns. Particles that are this small float in the air and then make their way into your bloodstream.

Medify recommends that you replace this filter every 3,000 hours or after 6 months. You should also replace them once you notice a significant reduction in clean air delivery from the device.

Activated carbon filter: the MA-112 model uses carbon pellets to absorb bad odors and eliminate formaldehyde. This filter can easily capture gaseous pollutants from the air through adsorption by trapping them on its surface.

Ozone Free ionizer: this feature is optional and can be turned on or off depending on your preferences. When you turn the ionizer on, it charges the air passing through it, using an electric current. This then forms negatively charged ions, which attach themselves to very small pollutants, making them large enough to pass through the filters.

The Medify MA-112 has dual-cleaning air filters that draw in polluted air through both sides and then release large amounts of clean air through the top.

Fans

This air purifier has 4 fan speed levels, with the highest speed producing about 70 decibels. The lowest speed setting produces about 35 decibels which can be equated to a loud whisper. While this is still relatively silent compared to other large air purifiers, if you’re sensitive to noise at night, you should place it away from your bed.

Indicators

The MA-112 models come with a filter change indicator that lets you know when it’s time to replace your filters. On average, they are designed to withstand around 3000 hours of operation, and when this time lapses or the flyers become faulty, the indicator starts blinking.

This device also comes with an air quality sensor which, when it’s on, continually monitors the air quality of your home. It then adjusts the fan speeds based on the level of PM2.5 pollutants (those with small particles that are less than 2.5 microns). The MA-112 has a light strip that visually displays the air quality rating in your home using 3 colors; red for poor quality, green for average, while blue indicates that the air quality in your home is healthy.

If you don’t want to run your air purifier on auto mode, you can use this indicator to determine the best fan speed setting.

Exterior quality

Medify MA-112 Review: How Good Is This Air Purifier?
Medify MA-112 is made of durable materials and has an easy-to-clean exterior

This air purifier is made from high-grade plastic and is very durable. The lack of air inlets or outlets at the back allows you to place it against the wall without interfering with the air purification process.

Dimensions

The Medify MA-112 air purifier measures 28.3″H x 15.7″W x 15.4″ D, which is pretty large compared to other models. However, this is because it has 2 purification filters on both sides. The top also has to be wide to allow for large amounts of air to be released into your home.

Weight

This air purifier weighs 33.5 lbs and is relatively heavy. It, however, has hidden wheels that make it easy to move from one room to another.

Working process

The Medify MA-112 air purifier has been designed to filter large amounts of air which is why it’s also preferred for commercial use. In addition to an amazing construction and the 4-stage filtration process, we discovered that it was highly efficient. Here’s a full review of what we thought of the MA-112’s working processes.

Area coverage

This air purifier is one of the most powerful models from Medify and also has high fan power. It can clean rooms of 1200 to 2400 square feet with ease, which is pretty impressive. The MA-112 is also usable in rooms of up to 5000 square feet.

This device has an ACH of 4, which means it can clean all the air in your room within 15 minutes. It is within the recommended range of AHAM guidelines which is 4 to 6.

CADR

The Medify MA-112 air purifier has a CADR rating of 950m³/h, which is 400 Dust/ 450 Smoke/ 450 Pollen (cfm). As a rule of the thumb, your air purifier should have a CADR rating that’s about two-thirds of your entire room.

Ionizer

This air purifier comes with an optional ionizer that enhances its air purification capabilities. While the amount of ozone production is unclear, the MA-112 is ETL-certified which means it has passed the strict safety requirements on ozone production.

The ionizer charges anions, which, when released into the air, cling to fine pollutants. This makes them heavy enough to pass through the purifier or causes them to fall on the floor, preventing you from inhaling them.

Timer

The Medify MA-112 air purifier comes with a 0-8 hour purifier, which you can set to run for 1,2, 4, or 8 hours. Once this time lapses, the purifier automatically shuts down, saving you on power consumption. This feature is especially useful if you’re rarely in the house or for offices that only need the purifier to run during working hours.

Sleep mode

If your air purifier regularly runs through the night, then you’re going to love the sleep mode feature. It turns off the lights on the control panel eliminating distractions, and sets the fans to the lowest speeds to reduce the amount of noise produced.

When the MA-112 model is on auto mode, it automatically activates the sleep mode as soon as it detects that the lights have been off for more than 3 continuous minutes. It uses the light sensor to detect the change, which means that you don’t have to manually adjust the air purifier every time you go to sleep.

Controls

Medify MA-112 Review: How Good Is This Air Purifier?
All controls of Medify MA-112 are placed on the top of the panel with easy-to-read icons

The control panel is located at one of the edges at the top and contains the following buttons;

  • The power buttons.
  • The timer to set the amount of time you’d like the purifier to run.
  • Child lock feature that comes in handy if you have children in the house. It prevents them from accidentally changing the settings every time they touch the control panel. To activate it, you only press it down for 3 seconds but deactivating it takes around 30 minutes. This ensures that the children do not disengage the feature unintentionally.
  • Auto mode that continuously monitors the air quality in your home when it’s turned on. When it’s off, you can use the air quality indicators to determine the fan setting that you should use, based on the level of pollutants in the air.
  • Sleep mode that reduces the fan speed and turns off the indicator lights for restful sleep.
  • Filter change indicator that lets you know when to replace your flyers.

The control panel is conveniently placed to ensure the supply of clean air remains uninterrupted and is easy to use.

Noise level

The highest fan level produces a sound level of 70 decibels. For perspective, this is close to the sound a vacuum cleaner makes. The lowest fan setting produces a sound level of 35 decibels which is bearable.

You can use the lowest fan setting when you’re asleep or need a silent environment for studying.

Power consumption

The Medify MA-112 air purifier uses a corded electric cable so you can switch it on and off at will. On average, it consumes about 95 watts. While this seems high, this amount of power is needed to achieve the high fan power required to clean large rooms.

Warranty

This air purifier comes with a limited lifetime warranty. You, however, have to replace the filter after every 3,000 hours or after 6 months, using genuine Medify replacement filters. The major downside to this stipulation is that the filters are a bit pricey.

Depending on your level of usage, you should replace the filters every 11 months if you use it for an average of 8 hours daily, 8 months for 12 hours usage, and 6 months for 16 hours of daily usage.

PROS

CONS

  • It comes with a true H13 HEPA filter
  • Hidden wheels at the bottom that makes it easy to move around
  • It covers a huge area and can be used in commercial buildings
  • Dula filtration technology
  • Very high CADR rating
  • It comes with a lifetime warranty
  • It has an ozone-free ionizer
  • It uses smart technology to display the air quality in your home
  • Can be noisy on the highest setting
  • Costly replacement filters
  • High power consumption

Conclusion

The Medify MA-112 air purifier is one of the few affordable high-power devices, which is why it has high online ratings. It has a great conventional design that ensures it effortlessly fits into your home or office and has a large cleaning area. We have to admit that when we were conducting the Medify MA-112 review, we were a bit skeptical, but this device lived up to its expectations!
